Woman's ' Non-Partizan ' Political
league, flung , the gauntlet into the
arena today when she announced that
two of Its members will he candidates
for the school board of Spokane at the
election on December 2, to succeed J.
Grier Long, president of the Washing
ton Trust company, and A. TJ. Davis.
an officer of the Spokane Bar assocla
tion, whose terms end next fall. Mem
bers of the league declare they have
numerous grievances and that so far
the school .board has shown little or
no consideration for their recommen
dations. Mrs. M. E. Black, who Is
head of the Insurgent wing of the
league,' probably will be a candidate;
but it is given out that no formal an
nouncement will be made until the
movement is organized among the
women electors and two candidates

Two thousand cars of apples will bo
harvested in the Yakima valley this
season,' according to a statement re
ceived today by the Spokane chamber
of commerce from H. P. James, secre
tary of the Yakima Commercial club,
who compiled the figures from reports
by growers and inspectors. The pear
crop will be normal throughout the
valley, Mr. James adds and o'Tier fruit,
Including peaches, will bring the to
tal production to approximately 3,000
cars. Some losses "were occasioned
by late frosts, but in spit of this the
crops gives promise of being larger
than the average. Growers In other
parts of eastern and central Washing
ton and Idaho, eastern Oregon and
western Montana also report that ev
ery prospect is bright for large crops
