FESTIVAL IS
rOETLASD ROSE SHOW HOLDS
XE1T IXDUCE3CEXTS.
Many Features W3I Make the Erent
the Best In HlKtory.
Portland. Ore., April 12. (Special)
A brilliant historical street pagean
try developing the growth and prog
ress of northwestern civilization since
the empire was first discovered, Is the
unique and novel feature which the
thousands of school children of the
city will add to the program of the
Portland Rose festival to be held here
the week of June 5-10. This public
street precession will supplement an
other strikingly elaborate spec table,
also of historical purport which will
ak place on the new Multnomah Club
field. v v' -
These two events will be novelties
which will be a part of the continuous
program for the six days In which
there will be parades, decorative for
the daytime and illuminated tor the
night All. told six such street page
ants will be given in' what is by' all
means solidest and heaviest week of
pastime, amusement, entertainment
and education .ever held In the Pacific
Northwest If not in the west ' :
No like celebration has been favor
ed b the railroads with such gener
ous, rates and combination of selling
dates. This applies both to througto
transcontinental fares and rates rom
points in the northwest.
The Rose Festival visitor 'will have
the opportunity to any number of side
trips, and in fact many inquiries havj
been received at Festival .headquarters
from all parts of the country Indicat
ing that a goodly number of eastern
ers expect to see all they can of the
matchless scenic beauties of this ter
ritory as well as to look for desirable
Investments.
Even New Englanders and people
from the south are making such in
quiries. Of especial importance will be the
Festival rates this year because with
a 90-day return limit, the easterners
will be able to spend that time on the
coast, seeing the Rose Festival in Port
land in June and the Astoria Centen
nial celebration in August. N
Never before have the communities
of Oregon had such an opportunity tor
getting the eastern friends, business
men and Investors, Interested in local
enterprises, for two such attractions
as the Rose Festival and the Astoria
celebration are bound to induce thou
sands of Btrangers to come here that
would not otherwise do bo. ,
