Systematized business methods will be applied by the four towns to be represented In what Is known as the Eastern Oregon Baseball league this Bumpier, comprising Baker, Union, La Grande and Elgin and having Judge T. H. Crawford at Its head as president. The meeting of representatives in Ba ker last Sunday resulted in the com plete organization of a league which is to be run on a manner different to former years in that the clubs tach post , forfeits, or $250 which will be divided pro rata to the teams playing out the required 18 games. Any team refusing to "stay with the game" will forfeit its share In" the division. ' In the selection of Judge Crawford the clubs will have a judicious and fair management; Mr. Crawford was the unanimous choice and he has ac cepted the duties. His chief duths will be the appointment of umpires who are to be paid a weekly, salary and as there will be one from each town, the arangement will be such as to forbid an umpire to officiate at a VtUtii u uwu town is repre-t ientedi by the participating teams. Hence the La Grande umpire will be sent to one of. toe four. towns where Lft Grand tl ftot playing. The sys tem Is expensive but insures impartial judgment and decision. The umpires are to have complete control and any infraction of baseball rules of order and decency will be severely punish ed by fines and suspensions. '- A board of directors, including one man from each town, will handle the business affairs of the t?am. The di rectors appointed, or rather elected, at tho Baker meeting consist of Dr. J. R. Price, La Grande; J. L. Hindman. Elgin; Dr. R. J. Vaughn, Baker and Tom Brasher, Union. The other offi cers are A. W. Nelson, La Grande, secretary and Lewis Fernald, Baker, treasurer; 1 ' " 5 i ' . ' ""'" '. ' ; The season 'opens April 23 and It closes early In August though the exact playing dates of 12 games only have been fixed. " i Baker, Union" and Elgin business men have subscribed money freely to promote the league, and because of the additional expense attached for umpires it may be necessary to ask La Grande fans for small donations yet this may be avoided by the selling of season tickets In advance. The .first matter to be handled at this time how ever, Is the raising of the 1230 for feat money to be placed In a local bank. The plan in other towns is for the fans who are financially able to do so, to post bankable notes to be cashed or refunded by the president of the league as occasion may de mand. Joseph Palmer to W.
