On account of the derailment of a
pair of trucks on a box car In a
freight train Intended to pass No. A
at Perry, the morning eastbound was
delayed about one hour and the west
bound. No. 17, correspondingly delay
ed while the wrecker was sent to a
uolnt near Perry to straighten things
out. The trouble was trifling, but hap
uen?d In such a way that the wrecker
was necessary in the re-rallment.

Theodore Roosevelt was given a hear
ty reception this morning on his arri
val in Los Angeles. A reception com
mittee of prominent citizens met him
at the station and escorted him to his
hotel. Colonel Roosevelt will remain
here until tomorrow night, when h
will depart for the north. Arrange
ments have been made for 'several
public functions in honor of the ex
president during his stay in Los Angeles.

Great Highway Planned for Iowa.
Fort Dodge, la., March 21. Plans to
construct a great highway across the
northern part of Iowa, to connect
Sioux Cityon the Missouri river with
Dubuque on the Mississippi river,
were discussed here today at a meet
ing of the executive officers and direc
tors of the Hawkeye Highway Im
provement association.
