the Lyceum course this season. The

Ralph Dunbar's 'cello solos have
won splendid praise from exacting
critics, who oft;n hear the world's
greatest 'cellists and are only Inter
ested in music in its highest devel
oped forms. Others, who 'enjoy a
beautiful melody or prefer tha simpler
expressions from the noble instru
ment, are equally pleased. Mr. Dun
bar la a splendid artist with an Amer
ican brain, by the. use of which he se
lect the best of extant 'cello litera
ture and presents it in a pleasing and
satisfactory manner.
, The Dunbar trio has achieved real
success; the combination of flute,
'cello and piano, each In capable
hands, having long ago proved Its
right to a place in the realm of cham
ber music. Mr. Harry Dunbar is a
success as a presenter of character
sketches, his repertoire covering a
variety of subjects In as many dia
lects. It has been often said that he
"was the star of the evening," but th?
same phrase has been applied to all
the other six features presented in a
program. The vocal soloists are well
worthy of the success they have won
and every feature presented is a prov
ed one devoid of all amateurlsms. The
Dunbars have kept copies of com
ments, to the amount ol about one
hundred columns a year. Many print
ed are not seen by them. The follow
ing denote the tone of, approval that
the press has universally awarded
them.
Probably no entertainment In the
course has given such satisfaction as
the Dunbars. Their voices 'blend
beautifully and it seemed that the au
dience could not get their fill of the

simple, and the program varied. It
was all good, but ths bell ringing' was

It is difficult to imagine how amore
entertaining program could be made
up. The solos of Mr. FelgarJ and
Ralph Dunbar were much enjoyed
and the only fault with Harry; Dun
bar's work is that thrre was not more

will be h;ld at the university tonight.
Seven colleges, O. A. C, Albany col
lege, Pacific university, Pacific col
lege, Willamette, McMlnnvllle and the
University of Oregon will participate
Besides the orators, eight delegates
from each college will be in Eugene,
end will be guests at the various club
houses. The contest is an ' annual
event and is held at the state.' univer
sity once in seven years.
Carlton Spencer, '13, is Oregon's
representative. His oration ' is enti
