making homes, of developing lands,
promoting the very best agriculture

present the grain farm is hanging by
a thread, for It hase been proven that
Elgin can and does raise a very fine
commercial apple and apple land ' Is
worth a great deal more than Brain

ther developed this little city will
continue to ship out considerable over
a thousand cars of grain, hay lum
ber and other Btaples. , :

tually be displaced by the apple there
is little doubt in the minds of good
business men at, that city. The time
that they purpos showing the out
sider what can be done before they
entice him . to make an :- investment.
At present . the railroad from La
Grande to Elgin runs through orch
ard after orchard at Alice! and Im-
blef and th products of those orch
ards are already of consequence.
Then the valley narrows and when
one enters Elgin It is found that frui
lands are -located in the foothills.

Editor Lee Tuttle's Recorder a
weekly paper well edited and of goo'i
appearance. Lee is born of editorial
parentage and when his father passed
away the young man took his place at
the head of the paper. 11 He has made
for Elgin a newspaper that is well
known throughout the northwest ana
hte enjoys the loyal support of his
home people, which he deserves.
The ' Observer representative spent
a day in Elgin and met many of her
citizens studied her institutions and
this paper will from day to day run
something of interest about that city
and county
