comedy is on the wans. The "wise

and he is legion, has loudly voiced hla
sentiments . during ; the ; past two or
three seasons to the. effect that "the
public will soon tire of girl shows and
music shows and go back to the old!
style of entertainment which It form
erly patronized so extensively.", .The
shrewdest managers la the theatrical
business, however, are -pinning their
faith on musical comedy as strongly
this season as they havie since this
style of entertainment has been a fur
ore, and the men who talk with cap
ital. and not with, words alone, are
saying nothing, but are making the
same gorgeous productions as hereto
fore. The number of standard and
Shakespearean attractions en tour re
mains extremely low.
The American publb demands en
tertainment clever,' clean entertain
ment and the producing manager, to
meet this demand, produces an attrac
tlon, the component elements of which
are music Kghts, color and action. To
