It . mm mm GDI ES TRUE Chicago, Jan. 23 (Special) D. L. Moody was once seen standing in a vacant let in the rear of the Moody church with his head bowed In pray er, and being asked what he was praying for, said that it was for mon ey with which to erect a building for Libia training ' school. This prayer was answered in part by the erection of the present men's building. Con tinued answer was given In the pur chase of the building on La Salle avenue for women's dormitories, and still further In the men's new build n.oephere of the school is like that of continuous revivlaL No object is more constantly em phasized than the importance of the courtesy and tact in approaching strangerB, or In introducing the sub ject of religion anywhere. The man ner of presenting truth is often quite as important as the matter, and every ambassador for Christ should be first of all a Christian gentleman. The In stitute cannot furnish common sense of course, but It alms to develop and train the gifts of each student, and It is doubtful if any school can show . greater contrast between its raw material and its finished product Juan "1 ing dedicated February 5th, 1910, and the women's new dormitory which ii Jn course of. construction, tha out Bide is now complete and the con tractors are busily working on the In side construction in the hope of its partial occupancy by Founder's Day, February. 5th, 1911. How ever this may be, It is certainly for tunate for many young people that Dwlght L. Moody was born poor, for it led him to sympathize heartily ' with every other young man who like him self had small means and large aspi rations. : ' ;";';.';:'''v.. '. Uy' . y: i'eed of Lay Workers. He early recognized that a -considerable part of our religious . work nlusbe done by lay workers. He also bow that there were thousands of young men and young women to whom a college education was lmposeiDie but who with a year o two of train ing in .the English Bible, personal work and music might be able to fill many positions of usefulness ' which their gifts and calling might Indicate, This led him to found the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, which af fords perhaps the most remarkable combination of study and practical work that the world has ever seen. It is In no sense a theological semi nary or rival of the seminaries. It does not teach Hebrew or Greek, but it has five different methods of teach' ing the English Bible. Some mission ary boards also advise all their can didatea for the foreign field to spend at least a few months at the instl tute. ', Method of Training. : The method is to combine practi cal training with lectures and study. Mr. Moody being' pre-eminently a iiian of one book and having achieved his marvelous success with that alone naturally felt that the English Bible ought to occupy the first place in the training of men for Christian work. Accordingly the Students are requir ed to study the Bible as a whole, and each of its parts in particular. They pre taught to analyze the books, and to dissect each cnapter so as to dls cover the principal subject and lead ing lesson. ' Furthermore they are shown how to use the Bible in leading men to Christ, and in meeting the various ex cuses which arise in Christian work. Fach student has from three to five assignments a . week tor personal work in jails, missions, Gospel wag on or other services, and they are examined on their personal work as veil as on their studies. In this way they get an all-round experience which the classroom alone could ner t-f give. Effect Tpon the Students. Nothing develops a worker , like neetlng difficulties, and if one can conduct an onen air meeting where very other door is a saloon, or bro thel, or a five cent theatre, and ar rest the attention of cuch a crov.d with the simple story pf the Cvcrsa nnd actually load men to Christ, ho lb bound to grow in srrace and know ledge and spiritual power. Work like this drives men to their knees, and no students who Is living a careless I rayerlees life will dare attempt It This combination of religious work with classroom training Is very help ful to the spiritual life of the stud for the relief demanded in the com plaint, to wit: ' For 4 decree dissolv ing the -bonds of matrimony now ex isting between said plaintiff and de fendant, and granting said . plaintiff an . absolute decree of divorce, and permitting plalnUff to assume her maiden name, Elsie Wleck. .
