state's office in Idaho, R. (Bob.) Lang
don, a former Union boy, is in La
Grande, the guest ; of his old-time
friend, C. C. Penington. Mr.. Lansdon
spent two or three years at Union
when a youngster and since them has
been prominently identified with Re
publican politics in Idaho.
Commenting on the political situa
tion the former secretary 'of state
said the outcome was much in doubt
as regards the present session, as the
house and senate are both Republican
but not so by large majorities, and of
course there is a Democratic execu
tive.' Amen the things which "
deemed sure to receive consideration
at the hands of the legislature is the
Idaho primary which is not to the lik
ing of a great many in the mine state.

not . a part of the Oregon law, and
then too, the voters do not have to
stipulate party affiliations as they do
in Oregen., This, feature will be

When oil the charred corks have
been worked through the socks Into

drained through a close canvas sack,
and what - remains . in . that sack
ready .or the performers. The stuff
is pnt up In cans, from which, when
the minstrel Is ready to "black up." he
takes a little of the black paste in bis
hands and applies It to his face, neck

substantial addition in acreage next
spring when A. G. "Wilson, a local
orchardlst plants 10 acres of land to
pear orchards. Mr. Wilson already is
an extensive apple grower but will
venture Into the pear business and If
possible make the' Imbler country no
torious for Its pears as well as ap
pies and potatoes.'
During the year 1910 Mr. Wilson
fet out 80 acres to apples aside from
building a $2,000 bungalow Just east
of Imbler and erecting a specially
