A tax of eleven mills, as com
pared with five mills last year has
been levied by the school board fol
lowing the election of last Saturday
afternoon. This increase over last
year's requirements, provides tor. re
tirement of $5,000. new school house
bonds, completing the furnishings and
finishings of the building and install
ing the heating plant on . the North
Side. At the end of the year all these
dragging details will have been clean
ed up and It will be possible to return
to the-normal levy again.

That the coyotes are Infected with
something that has changed the na
ture of the beasts is attested by the
experience,, of Jim and Ed Day, on
the Day ranch 15 miles north of this
city, the night of December, 6th, ac
cording to the Enterprise News Rec
ord. . .
A coyote chased the Day's dogs to
the house and. tried to follow them
under the house. .Day came out with
a lantern to see what the trouble was
and Ed. followed with a 22 rifle, The
beast turned on Jim who kept it. off
iwtth the lantern. Jam, the coyote
and the dogs fought all over the yard,
belna so mixed up that Ed could not
get a shot Finally Jlp scaled a pitch
fork and dropping the lantern he
(grabbed the fork and pinned the brute
to the ground on Its next lunge. Ed
then shot it o
.Another rabid dog died in Grouse
yesterday, this one belonged to Mr,
Yoeman. Four dead sheep were alBO
found near this man's place yesterday,
which have all the appearances of
having1 died of hydrophobia.' The ru
mor we spoke of last week of a cow
of E. Sanday's having died was false.
