ing off his revolver, and was finally
released.
Sheriff Marvin went to Wallowa the
next morning in an auto and reached
there Just aa Elmer, footsore and
weary, turned up Main street from
the railroad track, down which he
had tramped from Enterprise. Marvin
started with the lad on the afternoon
train Monday, but the train was hard
ly out of Wallowa before Elmer made
a pretense of wanting a drink, then
dashed out of the door and off the
train. Marvin was right after lilnv
and captured him after a short chase.
He walked him to Lostlne and 'came
In a rig the west of the way.-
The Ada county sheriff will come
for Elmer today. , - ' .

An Ordinance authorizing the Mayor
and Recorder to enter into a contract
with the Oregon Railroad and Naviga
tion Company for furnishing water to
the Company for one year.
The City of La Grande Does Ordain
as Follows: '
Section 1. That the Mayor and Re
corder be. and thery, are hereby au
thorized to enter Into a contract with
the Oregon Railroad and Navigation
Company to furnish to said Company
water -for Its use at La Grande, for
the term of one year from the. 30th
day of September. 1910, for the sum of
$300.00 per month, the amount to be
used not to exceed 300,000 gallons
each twenty-four hours. ;
; Section 2. This ordinance shall be
published in one issue of the La
Grande .Evening Observer and after
Its approval by the Mayor shall take
effect from and after the 22nd day of
November, 1910. , i
Passed the council on the 19th day
of October. 1910 by six members vot
ing therefor.
