The second biennial educational day
meeting of the Blue Mountain Grange
Saturday, October 15, 1910, will long
be remembered as a grand step In the
line of progress for which this
Grange stands. Blue Mountain Grange
not only stands, but works for the
education and advancement of all the
people.
When a" gathering of people listen
to the class of entertainment there
given it is impossible for them to go
away not being benefitted, being bet
ter for the hearing of it. There Is on
ly one sad fact connected with such
good things and that Is the deplorable
one that they can not be heard by all
and thuB brought home to the hearts
of all those most vitally Interested. It
Is a privilege indeed, even an educa
tion within lUelf to listen to the kind

County School Supt E. E. Bragg, in
his address urged the closer acauain

that left no doubt as to the genuine
benefit derived from such practice. He

many states against the practice of

If they must verbally vivisect the
teacher not to do so in the presence
of children as it detracts from their
respect toward that teacher, conse
quently maring their good conduct in
and about school. In a word it tends
to demoralize that which they (the
parents and the teachers) are most
earnestly trying to build up and bring
to the height of perfection, Jhe good
home and the good Bchool.
Prof. Bailey's address "Surround
Ing Influences" will long be remem
bered by those who heard It not for
rhetorical perfection', sublime flight
in oratory etc., although a goodly por
tlon of . these things were present in
It, but for the heart Interest, truth,
genuineness of sympathy and facts
that will stand test. When Prof. Bailey
looking the audience in the face said,
"Listen to nie", then proceeded to
outline, explain,' defend or deplore
facts and conditions In language, sim
ple.- plain, elegant, on account of the
genuine feeling any sympathy, you
felt and knew that he was right He
says, "Give the boy and girl on the
farm what they go to the city to get,

hates his prison. I thank God for It,
I have given my girls, as near as I
can, the kind of a home I longed for,

er, said we couldn't afford books and
musjc was only for eirls and that
a common school education was good
enough." Mr. Bailey praised at leneth

The discussion of the county high
school question was handled in a most
satisfactory manner by County School
Supt F. E. Bragg. Many questions
were asked and answered shedding
general light upon' this important
problem which is now before the peo
ple of Union county. " . "

arranged in line for , luncheon and

Grange has long been famous ' was

of the teachers there assembled a vote
of hearty thanks for the entertain

for those who labor to prepare a

man, whose curiosity was . aroused.

plained the panhandler. "If I have a

beer. 1 have a nickel comeback, which
enables me to amble over to the free
lunch counter and fill up. Maybe yon
don't realize that getting change over
the bar gives a man a certain tone
that doesn't belong to him if he lust
