Ignorance of new football rules

ing the field at Enterprise Saturday
afternoon before the gapae between
the La Grande and Enterprise foot
ball teams had been completed. The
departure of the visiting team did
not signal a whole lot of hard feeling
for it was merely a business proposi
tion. The officials believed La Grande
had made a touchdown only after vio
lation of rules while those who are
posted on the game affirm It was man
ifestly a touchdown and without
mincing words and without the slight
est trace of. hard feeling enywhere,
the La Grande team quit The' score
was ten to five in favor of the Enter
prise until the last touchdown was
made and when It was disallowed, the
end came. La Grande punted to En
terprise and the catcher signalled for
ittir catch but the ball Btruck his
shoulder, bounced to the ground, .was
recovered by Currey who sprinted
over for a touchdown. It was undls
putably a touchdown but the officials
claim they did not see the play and
consequently could not O. K. it
The La Grande boys were treated
royally all the while they were In
Enteiprise, and following the game
they were given an Informal reception
at ' which all ' were splendidly enter
tained. Except for the conflict over in
terpretation of the rules which by
the way is going to be a frequent
feature earlyt in the season with any
team the entire trip was a continual
round of pleasure. Enterprise has a
husky, defensive set of players and
will cut a figure in Eastern Oregon
athletics hereafter. "Dad" Irwin made
a sensational run for a touchdown
during the early part of the game.

The U. S. Department of Agriculture
