ley is having quite a boom In that di
rection, and In some quarters it is con
fidently predicted that he will bo the
lucky candidate. , Consequently the
Texas statesman Is much in the lime
light, and some good stories are being
told of his career. It is said thnt this
is how he got bis start in politics:

lawyer in the new section into which
be had moved. Time : had rolled
around to nominate a Democratic can
didate for congress. '. The day of f the
convention had been set It was con
ceded that a certain old man in con
gress would be given the nomination.
