SMALL WISCONSIN TURTLE COMES
FAB BUT STILL LIVES.
Peculiarly Enough the Tiny Turtle Is
, 'ot Suffocated. .
A mud turtle of the Wisconsin
species, reached La Grande this morn
ing in a small airtight tin box, and
though it has been locked up in sucb
cramped quarters where no air could
reach It for nearly a week, the turtle
was apaprently in perfect health.
The turtle, diminutive in size, com
pared to the monsters that are found
in the Mississippi valley frequently,
was sent to Dave Stewart, Jr., by Ken
nethltfaclntyre, who formerly lived in
Union . and Wallowa countleB when
his parents made .their home here. Not
long ago they moved to La Crosse,
Wis., and there It. was that Master
Kenneth found his mud turtle. Anx
ious to satisfy Master Dave's curiosity
as to a mud turtle ,he placed a small
one in an airtight tin box and sent it
to La Grande.
It is bring cared for today by Mr.
Steward who la rather at a loss to
know what to feed It.
