Brady, passed through La Grande
this morning on their way to Boise
from Northern Idaho points. The gov
ernor showed his beaming counten
rance for a moment as the train was
leaving and it bore all the evidence of
confidence that Wallls himself holds.
Mr. Brady has been campaigning in
Northern Idaho and bis lieutenants
the trip has won many voters la ad
dition to those already on bis side of
the gubernatorial contest. Brady is
one of the well known Individuals of
there is a close contest, his friends
'believe him a safe winner.
Wallls a Pabllc Figure.
Wallls, who by the way Is an old
time newspaper man and Is now
president of the Idaho Press associa
tion, is a man who lately has climbed
the ladder of fame by an Incessant
warfare against short weight butter
and cheese, filthy slaughter houses and
general campaigns against unsanitary
food conditions. He has stirred Ida
ho from center to circumference with
his Incessant efforts to rid the state
of illegal food practices and impure
food conditions. He, too, has been in
Northern Idpo looking after official

Forty-Flve Thousand Paid for Tract of
Land Near AlIccL
Consumatlon of a deal in realty that
will add 360 acres to the orchard
acreage of Grande Ronde valley, took
place this morning when the . La
Grande Investment 'company purchas
ed from C. C. Penington 360 acres of
good wheat land near Allcel for $45,
000. The deal has been under nego
tiation for several days but came to a
close this morning.
The investment company will set the
entire tract to orchard Just as soon as
possible. It will be sold again in ten
acre tracts, and will be one of the
material increases to orchard acreage
that have taken place this year.

turned this afternoon from the scene
of the fire, fin 'Jordan creek and re
ports that within the past few hours
the fire fighters have Becured a strong
hold on the blaze, and that about half
; the crew has been dismissed. '

was still burning and keeps the men

the contest is kept up continually, The
men are in a hard task and they eat
like threshers.. The grass has been
burned off, so that It is necessary to
haul provisions .for the animals used
in the conflict. .
Water Superintendent H. C. Gilman,
who has been with the fighters since
the struggle was commenced, is ex
pected home this evening. .

the macadam road ends, was platted
this morning, and la now on the mar

This step has been contemplated by
the La Grande Investment company
for some time, but the actual platting
and providing of streets and the like
was completed only today.
