"Civ M Your Cow

MyOrgin"
UILDREN," said daddy one evening, "it Is always well before you do
fl anything to consider what the result will be.
VVji "There was a man once who had saved np money enough to buy
a cow. So off be went to the market and bought a tine one. By
and by he saw u man playing on a hand organ and getting pennies from the
people on all sides. 'Oh,' said the man, 'If I only hnd that band organ 1 would
be happy, for I would soon become rlchl' So he asked the man with the band
organ what be would take for it, and the organ, grinder, after thinking for a
short time, said: -
r 'Give me your cow and I will give
exchange. . Then he went op and down, playing on, the organ, but the pennies
were very slow in coming. So after awhile he was sorry he had given his
cow for the organ. .
"It was quite cold, and the poor
borne, for bis fingers almost froze turning the organ handle.. Leaving the
town, he saw a man wearing a fine pair of warm gloves.
"'Oh,' said he, 'If I only bad that pair of gloves to keep my bands warm
Fd be the happiest man In the world r He asked the man with the gloves to
let him have them and offered the band organ in exchange. The other man
was willing to make the bargain.
"Now, the man who had started out with money enough to buy a cow and
bad only a pair of gloves was happy because bis fingers were no longer cold.
But when he walked toward home he became very tired. As he trudged
along he saw in the road another man who was also walking and leaning
from time to time on a stout stick. 'Oh,' said he, 'If 1 only bad that stick to
lean upon I would be quite bappyr ' ,
"So he hastened his steps and overtook the man with the stick, ; When he
asked for the stick Its owner said, 'I will give it to you If you will give me
your gloves in exchange
"The poor man's legs were so tired and his hands were now so well
wanned that he was glad to exchange his gloves for the stick. For all the
money with which he had left home in the morning, enough to buy a cow, be
bad now in the evening nothing but a heavy stick.
"As he neared home he saw a parrot sitting in a tree and laughing. 'You
foolish man!' said the bird. 'For all your money you have nothing left but a
stick! Shame on you!' This made the man angry, and he threw the stick at
the bird. The stick remained In the
so at last he reached home with nothing left."
