Persons who desire to make entry for any of the lands to be restored In Wallowa and Baker counties, should be propertly advised before making their locations. Many Inquiries have recenUy been made at the United States land office at La Qrande, relative to the lands within the Wallowa National Forest reserve, which, are to be restored to entry, and In many instances it seems that Improper Information he been given to persons who contemplate making settlement In order to secure a preference right to make their fil ings In the proclamation issued ' by President Taft, under date of May 27, 1910, it is provided: y "The lands hereby eliminated from the Wallowa National Forest reserve, which are not embraced in any other reservation or appropriation shall be restored to the public domain and become subject to settlement under the general provisions of the home stead laws on such date and after such notice by publication as the sec retary of the interior may prescribe, but shall not become subject to entry, filing, selection or other form of ap propriation until the expiration of thirty days from the date so fixed, and no person shall be permitted to gain or exercise and right whatever under any settlement or occupation begun prior to such date, and all such settlement and occupation are hereby forbidden." - The Register and Receiver have not been advised by the secretary of the interior as to the dates when the land to be restored shall be subject to set tlement or .entry, but when such in formation is received, it will be made a matter of publication.
