that all livery automobile drivers
were doomed to arrest for speeding,
but at a late hour today no warrants

A painful accident yesterday after

Chautauqua grounds when Elenor
Harvey, five-year-old ' daughter ' 'of

seat in the rear of the auditorium, and
sustained a fracture of one arm be

Robert Withycombe and Will Vogel,
two of Union's most active young men
spent yesterday in La Grande. They
are very enthusiastic over getting a
publicity campaign Btarted for this
section of the state. In speaking of
the proposed trip of Union and La
Grande, to the Wallowa country, they
said Union is ready on a moment's
notice. They think it will be a splen
did Idea to get over into the neighbor
ing country and make lthe acquaint
ance of all of the people there. . ?

According to the general opinion of
all, who -have been In attendance at
the Chautauqua, Dr. Davidson Bu
chanan Is one of the strong men on
the. program. Last night he took his
audience through darkest Africa and
there was not a moment that some
point of interest in that country was
not portrayed. Such lectures are in
structive and give everyone the bene
fit of what has taken Dr. Buchanan
years of work and heavy expense to
learn.
Tomorrow night he will talk on
New Zealand and her government. He
is a close student of the New Zealand
form, which, has gained considerable
popularity In this country, and will
give tacts pertaiuiug to limi uaiiuii t

that New Zealand Is the one country
where people are not supposed ' to
