Two Splendid Trophies For Winners
Of Water Sports.
A huge and elegant loving cup to
be donated to the winner of the
most Individual points In the water
sports to be held at the Chautauqua
grounds on July fourth, and a smal
ler but no less attractive loving cup
for the winner of the swimming relay
arrived this morning and are on ex
hibition at the Peare Jewelry store.
The trophies are" here at any early
day that the prospective contestants
can see what their award will be if
they ' win the most points. Every
event in the calendar of attractions
will count against the cup. The
trophies can be seen at any time.
Rehearsals Have Been Going On And
Good Mwslc Is Promised.
Another of the popular band dances
will be held next Wednesday evening
at the Elks hall. A band orchestra of
ten pieces will officiate at a portion
of the dance, but the band itcelf will
play several dancing numbers.

A large . crowd listened to the well
prepared program last evening at the
Baptist church. The young people
and the boys and girls did their best
and many words of praise were given
as the people left the house. Child
ren's Day conies once a year and on
this day the children of the Sunday
school sing and speak praises for the
work of the Lord.
New Company At Alrdome.
La Grande will have the oppor
tunity of seeing a Broadway actress
a faverite In the East as well aa
;he West Miss Ethel Tucker, sup
ported by a superb company, when
she opens an indefinite engagement
at the Alrdome, beginning Thursday
the 23rd.
Miss Tucker Is known over the en
tire country as one of the cleverest
f leading women on the stage, and one
t of her hobbles Is to surround her-'
t self with the best company procur
able. This company has Just closed a
successful engagement In Twin Falls
Idaho, haying played to capacity
mulness for twenty "weeks.
An Important meeting has been
held by the committee having the
continental congress in charge. All
the- leading parte have been assigned
and the very best oratorical talent In
the city is now employed to carry
parts. There will be at least thirty
characters on the stage, each repre
senting the leading men who partici
pated in the congressional matters
at the close of the war.

lohn Andrews of Perry was hurt
.yesterday by the accidental dis
charge of a rifle which he was c
'rying. The bullet tore through three
fingers of 'Ms right hand, causing
, much pain. .He was brought to the

Doctor Molitor. He will not likoly

words of the Democratic slogan dur
ing the campaign which will get a
boost here tomorrow. At least ' the
Harmon part will for the state con
vention Is sure to endorse the Har
