turned from Portland where they

outing while attending the conven
tion of Northwest , railroad ' agents.

plenty of amusement was dished out
to the agents, and Mr. Keeney is loud

people were married yesterday at
Hllgard when Engineer Frank Reck'
lin and Miss Vira Hart were married
at the "home of the bride's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hart, at Hllgard
yesterday afternoon, Rev. JJpton H,
Glbbs ot this city officiating. Mr.
Rechlin has won deserved promotion
on the O. R. & N. and is now one of
the regular engineers out of this
point Miss Hart has also been an
employe of the O. R. & N. at times,
being located at Hllgard as operator.
She has a large circle of friends and
acquaintances In La Grande.
7 Soldier Executed Today.
Walla Walla. June 20. Frank Bar
ker, ft soldier of the Third Infantry,
was executed today at sunrise for the
murder of Ira Messenger, a Civil war
veteran whom he killed with a gas
pipe diir'Ing a quarrel af Medical Lake
two ypars ago. He was not worried
add had to be awakened from sleep
for the execution. He would not see
a priest and did not even write to
his mother. The execution was sue
cessful. He was 25 years of age. -
