Como, June 13. The local police
today' ' received word that . Porter
Charlton, the young Washington sus
pected of the murder of his wife,
Mary Scott Castle, whose body was
found In a trunk in Lake Como, was
seen In Lucrne, Switzerland. ; In the
meantime, Isapolatoff, the Russian,
who rented the couple villas, is be
ing held the opinion being divided re
garding the identity of the murderer.
Some believe that Charlton has been
murdered. To assure the authorities,
the officials today began digging up
the grounds around the Villa looking
for the possible body of Charlton.
There are numerous queer circum
stances surrounding the murder. "
The police found blood stains on
tntrn; linen, and towels ; In
the little villa " occupied by v the
CharltonB, Indicating tbat perhaps
two persons were slain there or that
a desperate . struggle ocenred In
which . Mrs. Charlton was rendered
unconscious. , . If only one murder
was committed, the -police believe
that Mrs. Charlton fougM with de
monical strength and severery injured
her assailant, for the blood stains
were too large and too many in num
ber to have come from one person.
Charlton's Coat Found.
Como, June 13, 2:30 p. xn. Fisher
men this afternoon found a coat that
has been Identified s one rorn by
Charlton in a lake. Thia strengthens
the theory that he met the same fate
as his wife. ' ' -
