I FOR CHERRY
SHOW SET
PROMOTERS BIDE THEIR TIME IX
ANNOUNCING DATE.
Fruit Crop at Core Promises Riches
For The Producers Again.
Cove cherry " growers are biding
their time before announcing the
dates of the first annual cherry show
which Cove is planning. The dates
will correspond with the ripening of
the fruit and just as soon as It can
be forecasted with any degree of
certainty on what days the cherries
will be at their best, the show dates
will be given due publicity. Chris M.
Stackiand, one of the Cove Dromoters
of the show, was in the city today and
stated that the movement is a' popu
lar one at Cove. The show will be
held late this month likely.
Crop Indications flood.
The cherry crop, states Mr. Stack-
land, will not be quite as extensive as
last year when Cove was one of the
few districts that boasted of bumner
crops, but the grade of fruit will be
better by far. It will mature much
earlier than last yean
Many Employes Needed.
About 300 will be needed in Cove
alone this year for a period of three
weeks to care for the harvest of tha
fruit. Peaches promise a big crop,
of good varieties, and the prune crop
will be enormous Strawberries were
prolific and the harvest is Well ad
vanced. A big crop of raspberries is also in
sight, and all In all, fruit growers in
and about Cove like other sections of
the valley see a very profitable year
Jn returns from orchards.
A Gala Day at AllrcL
(By a Visitor.)
One of the many prosperous com
munities of the fertile Grande Ronde
valley Is the village of Allcel named
for Alice Ladd. It is a neighborhood
of farmers, thrifty well-to-do folk,
hard-working and wide-awake.
They have recently built themselves
one of the neatest and most present
able little churches to be seen In a
day's ride and are Justly proud of it.
Their Sunday school already taxes Its
capacity and 'the congregations yes
terday were too great for it. A series
of Bpeclal meetings have been In
progress for a few weeks under the
direction of Rev. H .Martin, pastor,
who Is most ably assisted by Rev. L.
C. Elliott, who was with him in the
Summerville meetings of so areat
power. To date there have been ap
proximately one hundred conversions,
a Methodist Episcopal church of
about sixty or more has been organ
ized, (yesterday there were twenty
five additions.) and forty-three per
sons were baptized by the District
superintendent. Dr. Gillllan, twenty
one of them by immersion.
It was a day never-to-be-forgotten
for that community and the end is
