Mrs. Adolph Bubler left!- Sunday
morning for Portland to mingle with
the roses for a few days. She was
accompanied by her mother, Mrs. T.
B. Johnson, who resides at Cove.
Henry Counsell,' aged 13 1 years,
killed a rattle snake, with a club, on
the hill near the mouth of Ladd Can
yon, while driving a dairy herd to
pasture last Friday morning. The
snake measured 3 feet long from tip
to tip, and 5!$ inches around and
had 7 rattles. ' -

J. P. Clark, who has been in the
Grande Ronde Hospital for the past
week Is reported as improving. Pro
viding he continues to improve, his
daughter Miss Emma will return to
her work at Ontario and Miss Justine
to her work at Lewlston, Idaho. Mrs.
Riggs, another daughter, will remain
for .several weeks yet -
EXCURSION TO SISTER COUNTY.
La Grande and Elgin Will Send Ex.

;.A special train has been chartered
by the managements of the La Grande
baseball team and ' the Elgin team
providing for an excursion into Wal
lowa county next Sunday. The train
will leave La Grande at 8 o'clock a.
m. and arrive in Enterprise in . time
for the game there, and reach Joseph
in time for the . contest there also.
Elgin will augment the crowd when
the train reaches there, for the Elgin
team plays Enterprise the same day.
Tickets are being disposed of at a
rapid rate here and it is evident that
quite a large crowd will go to Joseph
from here. Elgin is planning on
Fruit Trees.
