The United States is now deep In the, consideration of one of the
most serious problems with which it has had to contend since the civil .
war the high cost of living. Incidental with this comes the meat ques

C HERE are THREE PRIME
CAUSES for the present
high prices of meats and
Kindred products:
First A MONOPOLY, which
can be broken up by strict enforce
ment of the law.
SecondThe present METH
OD OF USING COLD STOR
AGE to control and keep out of
the market at the will of the mo
nopolist meats, poultry and eggs.
Third. The TARIFF, with
a duty of about fifteen dollars a
head on cattle. This keeps out of
the markets of this country the
great supply of cattle 7 from the
Argentine Republic, Canada and
Mexico. 1

IF the packers say that there
is a trust or combination of
farmers for any purpose
they don't know what they are
talking about. ,
I don't believe that the PACK
ERS are responsible for the high
meat cost. They can't be making
much on meat' The PRICE IS
SO HIGH THAT THE PEO
PLE CAN'T EAT MUCH OF
IT. -
CORN IS THE BASIS OF MEAT
PROPUCTION. NO OTHER GRAIN,
NO OTHER FEED, WILL TAKE
ITS PLACE. THE AREA OF LAND
THAT WILL PRODUCE CORN IS
8MALL COMPARED WITH THE
WORLD'S NEED OF IT.
Bjr J. M. MILLER. Former Comul Cen

IN London the price of beef
is about 25 per cent lower
than in this country. This
can best be accounted for 1y the
fact that in London there exists
the KEENEST COMPETITION
between . the packers of several
countries and also that there is
NO TARIFF ON IMPORTED
DRESSED BEEF.

SIS HAS NEVER BEEN
FOUND IN THE ANIMAL.
Our beef and pork animals in this
country at this time present a very
SERIOUS 'MENACE TO HU
MAN HEALTH. In his habits
the animal is clean, quiet, herbiv

elephant and the rhinoceros, but
has not. the same characteristics.

CHE ERA OF CHEAP MEAT IS
PAST FOREVER.
We cannot afford to live in
a fool's paradise in this matter.
The day of cheap meat is over
and that of cheap white bread is
passing. We are APPROACH

"BOUNDLESS NATURAL RE

In other vrords, ECONOMY is
