La Grande will soon have a water
rate practlcall cut in two, compared
with the present rate. Last night
the special comittee appointed some
time ago to investigate and report
on a revised water schedule, pre
sented a system that was left un
acted upon because the committee
recommended that the other coun
climen study the matter before de
ciding. It is practically certain that
the recommended rate will be adopt
ed later. For small consumers the
rate Is 40 per cent lower than the
present rate and as the volume of
water used Increases the rate al
most correspondingly reduces. If
adopted the system will give this
'city a very cheap water rate. The
recommedation In part follows: .
We your committee, to whom was
referred, the matter of investigating
and reporting of what water rate and
system for the regulation and mana
gement of the water system of the
city of La Grande, report as follows
and submit the following report for
your consideration:
That since the construction of the
gravity water system we would re
commend that the present Watergate
be changed and that the charge for
water to the water users of the city
would be at the following rate.
From 1000 gal; to 250M) gal, 15c
per 1000 gal. , 1
" From 25000 gal! to 50,000 gal.' 12 1-2
cent per 1000 gal.
From 50,000 gal.' to 75,000 gal, 10c
per 1000 gals.
From 75,000 gal to 100,000 gal
U-2c per 1000 gal. ' ' ' . : '
All over 100,000 gal, 6 cents , pur
1000 gal.
We would suggest In the charge ii:
water at the above rate that wheis

he charged for the 25,000 gallons an-i
ever 25,000 to 60,000 the rate to b a
12 1-2 cents and so on through the
rate. That the minimum rate 7fc
per worth when the water user ownc
his weer and that it be $1.00 when
the meter , Is rented from the city.
That in all cases where a new tap
Is made and the water piped to the
curb line, the fee for said tap to be
$5.00. We further recommend that
meters be installed and water sold
through the meter arrangements to
each and every water user and that
at the time application Is made for a
tap and water service by any water
user, that he be required to pay the
fee of $5.00 for the tap and $10.00
for a meter. He may, however, at
that time elect to buy the meter or
he may pay the sum of 25c per mo.
for the use of the same and that all
water consumers now using water
that is' not on a meter that the city
proceed to meter them as Boon as
possible.

in great numbers and La Grande has
