"La Vlettesse" is the name of an
elite dancing club organized laRt week
and which will give the first of a ser
ies of three dances at the Elk's audi
torium next Friday night. As the name
signifies, it is the "older set compris
ing married people entirely. There are
about 35 In the club and there will be
no invitations issued, though each
member of the club has the privilige of
inviting one to each party. The per
sonnel of the club insures its popular
ity and as it is to be more private
than any preceedlng club the parties
will of course be the prominent social
feature of the midwinter months.

UNION COCSTY SCHOOLS.
Elgin and La Grande Each get Awards
From Seatle Fair People
To send out bronze medals for sup
eriority of exhibits in the educational
display in the Oregon Building at the
Seattle Fair last summer 'seems to be
a Joke. Following on the reclept in
Elgin of the announcement that Elgin
Bchools had been awarded a bronze,
medal for their display, comes one to
Superintendent Stout of the local
schools of the exact duplicate nature.
In the letter to Mr. Stout. Pres. Weh
rung, of the Oregon Commission as
serts that La Grande's exhibit was bo
worthy as to be awarded a bronze
medal, the exact wording of the ack
nowledgement to Elgin. Mr. Wehrung
thanks the La Grande schools profus
ely for the exhibits and the interest
shown. It Is likely that Island City,
Union and Cove will receive the same
announcement in the near future.
Just what the bronze medal is indi
cative of, seems to be unknown.
