Meat Company, which U the largest
and most up-to-date plant in Eastern
Oregon. This company representes to
La Grande what the Union Meat Com
pany does to Portland. From ten to
twelve men ere constauily employed
which, with th? superior facilities and
labor savin devices, permits of a
large velum o cf business. It is a sight
worth beeuK to witness now quickly
a beef taken from the' yards can be
brought in, Killed, swung up on mov
able tracks and landed in the cold
storage roorcs which is surrounded
with f roBt covered pipes, there to re
main from eight to sixteen days before
going on the block.
Both steani and electilc power are
used. A large CO-hqrse power boiler is
used to furnifh the .team and hot
water, also running ILe ice plant
which has a capacity of three tons
three markets and leaving a surplus
for sale.
. Month in :.nd month out, 500 hogs,
150 beeves aud 75 head of sheep pass
through this establishment, which
means 25,000 pounds of pork products,
and 150,000 pounds of ooef. Thus some
idea may be conceived oi the magni
tude of the lupiness required to feed
the 6,000 p?cple in La Grande and
more in the adjacent territory. A
