A prominent physician remarked
today: "The Observer is doing some-
. thing that should have been taken up
long ago and that Is in exposing the
exhorbltant prices and method Am
u oy many traveling house to
house opticians. Not only are the
prices out of all reasons but In many
cases they do their patents great In
Jury by Improper fitting." When we
stop to think about it, nearly ninety
nine per cent of us need guardians,
. simply because we permit the other
fellow to do our thinking.

MEN AM) WOMEN BOOSTERS
There is not another city in this
section of the Northwest that contain
the number of wide-awake booa'.ers
that La Grande claims. When the
occasion arises, we have plenty of
workers. Last week the fair demon
strated what the gentlemen could do
and this week the park ladles are
showing what they can do In the way
of public enterprises. Every city Is
not able to pull off two such big suc
cessful attractions one following the
ether in close succession.
Few people the world over will re
gret the pending disposing of King
Alfonso. While he now regrets hav
ing officially murdered Prof. Ferrer,
it simply shows that he Is not big
enough to be ruler over Spain and the
sooner his crown Is taken from him
the better it will be for his country
and the world In general. Poor old
Spain. A revolution Is needed for
the good of her masses and It is to be
hopod that it wilt be bloodless.
There is a limit to even a La Grande
Booster and if you don't think so at
tempt to describe this perfect weath
er we are enjoying.
We have many brave men in this
city, but none brave enough to act as
judges of a baby show. Consequently
lots had to be cast ; . V

first baseman, has played his last
game of bal In a Pittsburg uniform."
This 'startling announcement was
made today by a member of the Pitts
burg club. Neither will Abstein take
a part In deciding the game this after
noon. Hamilton Hyatt, the Pirate out-
assigned Is that Abstein disobeyed
Clark's order to stay on third In a re
cent game. Abstein tried to score but
was1 put out There were none out and
a long fly would have allowed Abstein
to tie the score.
LATER Abstein reinstated for to-
day's game only.
