Boycott oa Brandy. '
BERLIN, Oct 8. Those "pestifer
ous Socialists," who are the banes of
the Emperor and the politicians of
the Empire, have broken out in a new
place. This time it is a boycott on
brandy. There are more than 3.000.-
' 000 Socialists in Germany, and every
one has become a total abstainer, so

far as brandy is concerned. This boy
cott is not the result of a great moral
uplift among the workingmen of
Kaiser William's Land, but la direct
ed ; against the new scheme of taxa
tion proposed this year by tlie gov
ernment, and recently adopted by the
Imperial legislature. By this boy
cott they calculate that they will de
prive the Imperial Exchequer of ap
proximately 125,000,000 , per annum,
so that the money required to place
the German finances on a more sat

by the recent financial reforms. "

money due for certain apples bought,
packed and shipped by Hall, returned
a verdict last evening but the veli i
was not opened until this morning.
When the envelope was opened It
was found that the defendant had won
as the plaintiff had been awarded the
sum of 70, which was practically the
same as :))ie got In the BumicS'
court from which she appealed to the
circuit court
Today . the court was engaged ' in
the case of Hug Brothers vs. Conrad

The Rheumatic's Reanonable Hope.
Rheumatism is suspended elimina
tion, mainly. That is to say, certain
waste products are not gotten rid of
by tbe excretory organs, and these
uuumgu uni unui retrograde cnanges
in the system. The organism is pro
ducing these poisons In excess so that
they cannot be gotten rid of as faBt
as manufactured .The body Is thus
stocked up with deleterious waste
products and to overcome these I tis
necessary both to resore normal phys
iologlcal process to , cut off excess
production and increase elimination.
Both are natural functions : and are
expected to operate only when the
body Is In nomal condition, anatomic
ally speaking. ' ;
Hypothtically viewed, some drug
might be tupposed to be able to neu
tralize this excess of poison, but as a
matter of clinical experience, alas!
none does. We would all better realize
the sad truth. Physicians in al these
generations of experience have not
been able to agree upon any single
drug that . will cure. Hundreds : of
drugs have been clothed with imag
inary powers, hailed with acclulm,
used a' while and then passed on .into
disuse and forgetfulness. Watrs like
litha, are called "solvents," when it
la well known that Vail waters are
solvents'Nr-pure water being the best
in the world, while litha waters are
uot more solvent than any others, and
probably not as much so as pure dis
tilled water. V'1- ;.'-::r.
Boiling out ; the system at hot
springs and by sweat baths helps a
good deal but does not often cure
rheumatism. Again, I repeat,' no drug
cures. People who have tried them all
will tel you so. Broad minded physic
ians say the same thing. The stand
ard medica text books say so. -
; In contrast this one fact is sign if-
ficent. Osteopathy doeB cure a good
many rheumatic cases, and the -patients
themselves tell you so. Why
not try, thenf It offers a very reason
able expectation of benefit to rheu
matic cases. Indeed a large share of
he early triumphs which made osteo
pathy famous were, won In the field
of chronic rheumatism, curing old
abandoned cases that every ; known
treatment' proclaimed hopeless. Os
