Now that the variagated autumn leaves are falling shade tree pruning time is again at hand, and many of La Grande's fine rows of box elders are feeling the clip of the pruning hook. Experts at the pruning busi ness say that October and November are the best months for pruning shade trees, but June and July arc good. Care must ba taken, however, in the spring to avoid cutting the trees too soon for in March, April or May the sap is flowing so freely th;it to cut the branches would caus. bleeding. Local authorities on the subject of La Grande shade trees state that the oldest trees in the city are box elders. The most numerous also are of this hardy variety. Silver leaf poplar seems to be next in favor, especially among the more recent planters. Ash and maple are also found in the city Taking all the varieties together La Grande is one of the most elaborately mi beautifully shade cities in the Inland Empire. MAY PROVE FATAL.
