Paul's Cigar Store has moved into more commodious quarters, in a lar ger room adjoining the former loca tion. The Baron vs. Daren suit was clos ed this morning and the estate deeded to W. n. Hindman, who bought it nt the sale a few days ago. O. P. HolIT, commissioner of labor of this state, was in the rity this morning on his way to Uaker City 01J official business. T. J. Orniond returned home last evening from Selida, Colorado, where he was called by the fatal illness of his mother. Peter Kuhn leaves tonight to make Portland his home for the winter, at least, and in all probability perman ently, Fred Huffman, secretary of the East em Oregon District Agricultural So ciety has returned from Pendleton where he visited the fair there. O. J. Tucker, one of the prosperous farmers of the valley, was In the city this morning attending to business matters. and Mrs .C. D. Huffman and ' U8. Williamson left this mnrnlne- frr J fTendleton, where they will attend the renaieion iair, now in progress. Dr. H. Logan of The Dalles, Is one of the distinguished visitors in tha city today. Dr. Logan Is visiting his son Ray Logan of the Logan Sherwood Real Estate company. Captain George E. Bartlett, the fa mous rifle shot,, will be In La Grande, October 5, 6, 7, to give exhibitions of bis skill. A. Burleigh of Enterprise, re turned home today after visiting the Seattle fair, accompanied by his son, Sylvester. . Miss Joyce Cruig, an instructor in music, left for her home in Enter prise today, after a shopping trip to this city. Dr. McXaughton of Elgin, returned Imnie today after spending a day in this city. Andrew Harris, a prominent stock man of Wallowa, was in the city this forenoon on his return from a busi ness visit to Portland. Dr. Molitor made a trip to Lower Cove last evening to set a dislocated and fractured elbow for the four-year-old son of George M. Gray. The little fellow fell from the back of a Shet land pony and was severely bruised. Judge Messick of Baker City, spent the day in the city on his return from Portland and Seattle, where he at tended the state convention of coun ty judges and commissioners and the A-Y-P. exposition. About dozen from this city, aug mented in numbers by residents of Mt Glenn, last evening gave a fare well reception to Cart Wood, a young man of Mt. Glenn, who leaves tomor row on a mission journey through the middle west. The evening was spent in an informal manner. The Ladles Home Missionary so ciety of the Baptist church, met at th) home of Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Gibson on East Adams avenue, Wednesday after noon. A very interesting program was rendered. The subject .being "Home Mission." A large crowd at tended. Dainty refreshments consis ting of sandwiches, salad, bakel beans, cake and coffee were served. The happy young touple will leave this evening for a visit to relatives in La Grande, after which they will be at home at Austin. Mr. Geddes is foreman of the Oregon Lumber Company's large lumber man ufacturing plant at Austin and is one of the young men of Eastern Oregon, who has a bright future. The bride is a daughter of L. C. Taylor and wife of Austin. Baker City Herald. Next Tuesday afternoon the first meeting of the season of the Neigh borhood club will be held in the club parlors. This meeting will be known as officers' day, as the president, now in office, Mrs. F. S. Ivanhoe, will make an address welcoming the new presi dent, Mrs. J. D. Smith. Mrs. Ivanhoe is engaged in teaching in Enterprise, but she has promised to be present if possible at the Tuesday meeting. The committee on the year book, with Mrs. George Palmer as chairman, will read the programs for the year. Some spe cial musical numbers are being pre pared for the afternoon. The lite rary division of the Neighborhood club will study two Shakespearean plays this year, "Hamlet," and "As You Like It." The historical division will devote its time to an exhaustive study of Egypt.
