society, wishes lo announce that the
county fair will be held this year at
La Grande, beginning October 4th,
and lasting one week.
The new catalogue will be out now
In a short time, the cause of the de
lay so far has been due to the effort
to get the Wallowa county people
to Join us and combine the two fairs.
The new catalogue will be practic
ally the same as the old one, but with
thla exception, nren:; of Uie premiums
have been raised and new features
added, and also a large special list
of premiums will be offered by the
business men of La Grande.

day on matters pertaining to O. R. &
N. passenger business and incident
ally to build a few fences for bringing
a big crowd ' here from Wallowa on ,
Wallowa Day at the fair, next week.
The officials hope to start back to
night, intending to visit Pendleton
on the return.

of colonists and of sightseers from
the east and middlewest, Mr. Scott
and Mr. O'Neal affirmed today that it
was necessary to go back to 1905
when the Lewis & Clark exposition
was on, to gain suitable figures on
which to compare the passenger trav
el this year. What was then un
precedented, is now outstripped by
one-third .
As to colonist traffic, which com
menced only icently, Mr. Scott has
not been advised of actual figures,
but is confident that the figures when
given out will be encouraging.
This la one of Mr. Scott's occasion
al visits to the point which Is rapid
ly swelling Its .passenger receipts due
to the branch line traffic. The open
ing of the exhibit hall at the depot
this week was a matter of satisfaction
for. the passenger men.
Sneezes Falls Dead.
WALLA WALLA. Sept. 29. Will-
iam McKabe, a former resident of
this city, but who returned here from
Alberta Sunday, walked into the Elk
saloon on West Main street yester
day afternoon and seating himself
at a table, sneezed and fell over dead.
Dr. Van Patten was summoned, but It
Is his opinion that McKaybe was dead
when he fell back In his chair after
sneezing.
The coroner was summoned and af
ter making an examination pronoun
ced death due to valvular disease of
the heart.
