The Cove schools will open on
Monday with a larger attendance than
ever before and with better prospects
In every line, states the Union Scout.
For the first time in the history of
the school, a full high Bchool course
will be given. Roy Conklin is again
at the head of the schools and will
be abiy seconded by Floyd Johnson,
a graduate tf Michigan, who has
quite a reputation in athletics, and
who will coach the athletic teams.
With Mr. Johnson as coach and with
other 'favorable, conditions, Cove ex
pects to win the pennant in football
this year. The department of foren
sics will be given a good deal of at
tention this year and Cove will apply
for entrance In . the state debating
league.
The following teachers will have
charge of the various departments:
Hoy Conklin, principal; Floyd John
son, assistant; Miss Dellleld, 7th and
grades; Stella Sievers, 3rd and 4U
grades; Eva Wilson, 2nd grade; Effle
Shore, primary.

TO WHOM IT MAY- CONCERN:
Notice is hereby given that in pur
suance of a resolution adopted by the
Common Council of the City of La
Grande, Oregon, on the 5th day of Au
gust, 1909, creating improvement Dis
trict No. 3, and designating Main av
enue as such district, and in pursu
ance of a resolution adopted by said
Common Council on the 1st day of
September, 1900, whereby said Coun
cil determined and declared Its inten
tion to improve all that portion of
Main avenue, in said improvement dis
trict as hereinafter described, bv
building i cement sidewalk thereon,
the Council will, ten days after the
service of this notice upon the owners
of the property affected and benefited
by such improvement, order that said
above described improvement be
made; that the boundrles of said
district to be so improved are as fol
lows: All that portion of Main av
enue, on and along the north side of
lot 6, block 110 In G randy's addition
to the City of La Grande, Oregon. No
tice is hereby further given that the
Council will levy a special assessment
on all the property affected and bene
fitted by such' improvement for the
purpose of paying for such Improve
ment. That the estimated cost of such
improvement is the sum of $225.00.
That' the Council will on the 27th day
of September, 1909,'meet at the Coun
cil chamber at the hour of 8 o'clock
p. m. to consider said estimated cost,
and the levy of said assessment, when
a hearing will be granted to any per
son feeling aggrieved bu such assess
ment. La Grande, Oregon, September 16,
