The Ladies Aid society of the church
of Christ, met yesterday afternoon In
the study of the church and decided
to serve dinner during the week of
the Union ' County Exposition. The
ladles are planning to make the work
of the church a success.
,. Mr and Mrs. Henry Wlldey and
daughter Miss Fern, who have been
the guests of Dr. and Mrs. A. L. Rich
ardson for the past three weeks, will
leave in the morning for a visit at
Seattle and Bellingham before return
ing to their home at Ocean Park, Cali
fornia.
A party of La Grande friends while
at Hot Lake yesterday, called nn

Swaney, both of whom have been there

the charges will be 15 cents.
Judge and Mrs. J. W. Knowles and
children returned yesterday from an
extensive tour of the southwest. They
spent some time in Texas and Oka-1
homa, and came back by the way of
California.
Painters Selak and Pruitt, who are
palcting residences in lower flat of
the town of Perry, spent last night In
La Grande and left again this morning
for the scene of action with a waon
load of amnnitlon.
Word has been received here by J.
Peare, that his son , Willie, will, start
home from Ireland about the 20th of
this month. He will not arrive home,

Promptly at six o'clock last evening,
Miss llanna, eldest daughter of J. C.
Stein, and Gottlieb Roessler of Pasco
Wash., were united in marriage at
the home of the bride's parents, two
miles east of the city. As the music
pealed from the beautiful march, the
bridal party descended the stairs, the
youngest daughter acting as flower
girl, and the bride's sister, Cynthia,
and W. H. Falk, acting as brides maid
and best man, and took their places
under an elegantly decorated arch.
Rev. Ford Ellis, the officiating minis
ter, by the ring ceremony, pronounced
them man and wife. After the vows
had been sealed, the company was
UHherod into the dining room, and par
took of a daintily prepared luncheon
served by two sisters of the bride. The
bride and groom, with the well wish
es of relatives and friends, departed
last evening on their wedding tour,
and will make their home in Pasco,
Wash., where Mr. Roessler is engaged
in the carpenter's trade.

the west side of Hemlock street east
to the city limits by macadamizing the
same, the Common Council of the City
of La Grande, Oregon, intends to levy
special assessments on the property
included in the above described boun
daries, for the pnrpose of improving
that portion of said Adams avenue
above describedby macadamizing the
game, in accordance with the speci
fications made by the City Engineer
and on file in the office of the recorder
