Few people realize to what extent
the gasoline engine has become a

Willamette valley hop growers will

Within the next few weeks many
counties iu the Btato of Idaho will
ote on local option. The results of
this election will be closely watched
throughout tho country generally,
from the fact that In Idaho women
liave equal rights nt tho ballot box
with men. There is no question but I
that upon women and children falls j
by far the heaviest burdens of the!
evils of intemperance. From a moral ;
standpoint !" per cent of the women !
of Idaho should vote for local option, I
If they do bo every county will vote i
dry, but will they? The liquor inter
ests have always been arrayed against
women suffrage, on the supposition1,
that morally women stood higher than
ien. A comparison of tho five states :
where women do vote do not offer
many striking examples as reflected j
by the laws they help make in sub
stantiation of this theory.

Story Unfounded.
DAYTON', Ohio. Aug. 26. "The
story from Portland, Oregon, that my

O. A. Carson, .of that place is untrue
from the beginning to the .end" is
the statement of Orrln Wright, elder
brother of the noted aviator. "There
Is not a word of truth In it as Orville
never was married. If Mrs. Carson
married a man named Orville Wright
he must have belonged to some other
family of Wrights." "
