10 S DRAW
Twenty rounds of fast boxing failed
to determine superiority between
Billy Ross and Walter Stanton, with
the result that Charley Runyon's de
cision of a draw, announced at the
end of their interesUng performance
before the Queen City Athletic club
at Haines was the popular opinion of
the COO fanatics who attended ' the
bout last night
The contest was the pretlest seen
In this vicinity in; lo, these many
years. The men entered the ring at
8:30 o'clock and from the first tap
of the bell mixed it in one of the
fiercest little contests ever seen here.
Stanton was from the first the ag
gressor choosing to rush matters
pretty fast during the first five
rounds, during which he had decis
ively the better portion of the argu
ment. Ross, however, true to his
reputation stayed strong and from
that time held his own against the
man who beat Tiger Smith for the
cnampionsnip oi ,ugianu. iu iu
10th and 11th rounds Ross was par
ticularly strong rushing his oppon
ent all over the ring.
Throughout Stanton did the lead
ing, and showed a knowledge of the
game that showed him to be a good
one. He forced the mixing and was
clever in his footwork. Ross played
his old waiting game, using his feet
to good advantage In getting away
from some hard blows, although he
was a little slower than the Spokane
Irishman In that division of the
game. Both men managed to land
some good blows, Stanton getting In
strong with his right to the body and
the face, while Ross made good use
of his right swing and landed some
sturdy ones In the clinches. Baker
