It Is claimed that between 12,000
and 14,000 tourists dally pass through
Portland. A still greater number nat
urally visit Seattle and of which is
truly gratifying to the residents of
the northwest . Seeing Is believing,
and no one can pass through this
great common -wealth without becom
ing impressed with the future possi
bilities when our resources are de
veloped and homes are to be found
on all our fertile lands.

If the remarks made by J. L. Dumas
President of the Washington Fruit
Growers' association, are true, there
is, certainly a great future for the
apple. He states that the prices are
too high! "That It is better to sell
100 apples at 6 cents each, than 10
apples at 10 cents each."
"We growers can take less for our
apples and sUll sell at a profit," he
said." The railroads can take ha'f
what they are .now getting and still
haul at a profit, while the commission
men can .take a fourth and still make
money."
All. of which would mean doubly
the consumption of apples. If this Is
true it will be done in time.
