The management of the First E&s-1
tare Oregon District Agricultural
society, wishes to announce that the
county fair will be held this year, at
La Grande, beginning October 4th,
and lasting one week.
The new catalogue will be out now
' In a short time, the cause of the de
lay so far has been due to the effort
to get the Wallowa county people
to join us and combine the two fairs.
The new catalogue will be practic
ally the same as the old one, but with
this exception, many of the premiums
have been raised and new features
added, and also a large special list
of premiums will be offered by the
business men of La Grande.
Get your exhibits ready for the
largest fair that Union county has
ever had.

There are several kinds

the kind tnat makes the

One the greatest shifty among
railroad employes in recent years is
about to take place in this city. With
tne return of H. C. Grady to La
Grande to reassume the Joseph run,
and the advent ot two new trains on
the 24, there will be necessary such
a series of shiftlngs and promotions
in all departments, as seldom occurs
at any one time.
Mr. Grady has purchased some
property on Second street between
Main and Spring, and by tlu first of
next month will move his family
uack here while he again goes on the
Joseph run where, for many years
he has held sway. The conductor
ship on the Pilot, Rock run, the two
new trains, the Grady vacancy on the
main line list go to make up a record
breaker shift.
But conductors are not the only
ones to be changed. New passenger
engineers will have to be put on, and
helper service men will be mobolized
here for that purpose, while newly
promoted firemen, engineers and
brakemen will go out to fill holes left
vacant by the new trains and changes.
O'Hare, Mytinger, Wissler and Con
ners seem the men selected for the
main 'line positions, and Mr. Fergus
for the Pilot Rock run. If he wants
it. Otherwise than this, the entire
affair is too complicated to be righted
by guesswork, and the actual bul
letin alone, can tell what dispensation
will be made with the men. Joseph
trains and extra trains that are soon
to be 17 and 18, and the Pilot Rock
run, are all run on the special train
schedule without regular men at this
time.
