PENDLETON, Aug. 12. With wheat
dropping at the rate of 1 or. 2 cents
every day, many farmers of tho county
have apaprently come to the conclu
sion that they are not going to be
able to realize a dollar per bushel for
thaelr wheat and are therefore dispos
ing of their holdings. It is estimated
that approximately a half million
bushels have changed hands in tha
county during the past few days.
Those who ran afford to carry their
wheat over until next spring are not
showing much uneasiness, but those
who must sell, by the end of the pres
ent harvest season are beginning to
fear that they missed it by not .selling
earlier. The local buyers declare that
the Indications point to still lower
prices, and one of them, Will Moore,
representing the Pacific Coast eleva
tor company. Bays the farmers of
Umatilla county have lost $100,000 al
ready by not selling when the ma:
ket first opened.
