be in attendance on the opening day.
J. D. MeKennon left lust night for
Spokane and John Collier and Fred
J. Holmes will leave tomorrow night.
Mr. Collier goes as a delegate from
the Merchants' Protective association
of Oregon, and Mr. MeKennon and
Mr. Holmes go as delegates from the
Grande Ronde Reservoir company.

gress. It Is to be one of the moBt
Important meetings yet held by the

ations are to be asked from the gov
ernment for the carrying on of the

The Outlook Favorable.
T. W. Davidson this week returned
from Portland and will soon go to
Vale, to look after the interests ot
the mamoth company In the oil belt.
Mr. Davidson reports the outlook flat
tering, and that hlB company confi
dently hopes to be able to give out
some very gratifying news at an
early date. The mammoth well is
down close to 1,500 feet and every
thing is working like a -charm. Un

I'ulon Comity Exposition Association
Is New Name.
Preferring "Union County Exposi
tion Association" to the "Eastern Ore
gon Exposition" as chosen when the
orgaif nation was first launched a
few days ago, the fair directors and
the fair committee at a meeting last
evening, decide to choose the first
tiamed title, and the corporation pa
pers which are to be filed with the
secretary of state early next week,
will bear that name .
Another step was taken by the old
board of directors of the Eastern
Oregon Fair association, which here
after will hold Us fair on the streets
of La Grande, when it was decided
that C. D. Huffman and F. E. Smith,
directors of the E. O. F. association,
are to visit the fair people at Joseph.
The plan advanced some time ago to
combine Union and Wallowa counties,
is still up In the air, and the men are
going over to Joseph next Wednesday
to ascertain definitely what Wallowa
county Is going to do in this matter.
