SEATTLE, August 3. (Special)
President J. E. Sullivan of the A. A.
U. will arrive In Seattle on August
9th, to take charge of the national A.
A. U. championships for 1909 which
will be held in the stadium of the
Alaska-Yukon-Pacific exposition Au
gust 13 and 14.
As the head of the association of
amateur sports in the United States,
President Sullivan is without a doubt
the most prominent sport follower in
this country. He is now In New York,
but will leave Tuesday by way of Chi
cago for the Seattle games.
The New York entries in the meet
will leave with President Sullivan.
They will pick up the Chicago Ath
letic association men in Chicago and
will come to Seattle In a special train.
With Mr. Sullivan as referee in the
big games the greatest cuuuuouw li
the officials Is assured. He has an
nounced his Intention of instructing
. the other officials in the meet person
ally several days in advance so that
they will be thoroughly familiar with
their duties.
The eastern athletes have been pre
paring for the past month for the
contest which they, realize will be a
difficult one to win. The western men
are also working hard in the hopes of
wresting the victory from the east
