It now turns out that the $30,000
reported to have been paid the farm

the Deschutes canyon, is in reality
only a bond and that the total in

visited the fair, gave even more space
to the Union county day.
By having representative women aa
her assistants, and the public of La
Grande, Mrs. I van hoe was able to
place Union county glaringly before
thousands. While the appended clip
ping say that 125 visited the reception
committee it is clear that 1000 from
all sections of the country were re
ceived. The 123 mentioned, were
only those from Union county anl
Eastern Oregon.
Three hundred badges were far in
sufficient, and this in a measure dis
closes the popularity of Union county
day.
Too much praise cannot , be given
Mrs. Ivanhoe for h er untiring efforts,
and her r eceptlon of compliments
since here arrival home has been un
limited. Clippings from the Seattle papers
.dative to .! vnt. nm appended
for the, reason that things In Oregon
are invariably passed up with mere
mention by tlje Seattle papers. More
attention was given Union coun.y
day than any other Oregon event
thus far. The clippings follow:
(Seattle Times Tuesday, July 27.)
The most important event at the
fair today from a view point of at
tendance, was the Union county day
program at the Oregon building. A
delegation from Union county, wear
ing the white budges with gold let
tering, took in the exposition and the
members enjoyed themselves at the
reception given them from 3 to 5 In
the afternoon. Refreshments were
served and the musical program in
cluded two vocal solos by Mrs. Ethel
Garfield Scott and selections by the
women's orchestra;
Mrs. F. S. Ivanhoe, chairman of the
hostess was assisted in the receiv
ing line by the following: Mesdames
Minerva Eaton, Dan Sommer, T. N.
Murphey, Ethel Garfield Scott. Wm.
Hall, H. S. Cavana. J. M. Berry,
Misses Judith Snodgra3S, Syra Kuhn,
and Irene Murphy. A special consing
nient of Union county cherries and
apples were on display in the Ore
gon building in honor of the day and
sweet peas from La Grande, the coun
ty seat, were the prevailing decora
tions. (Seattle P. I. July 28.)
The Oregon building was yester
day the Mecca for the exposition vis
itors from Union county, in the
Northwestern part of that state. A
special day was assigned them, and
125 poople, residents of the county,
were visitors at the fair.
"With the exception of a reception
in the afternoon, the program was In
formal. In the receiving line were,:
Mrs. F. S. Ivanhoe, MrB. J. B. Eaton,
Mrs. Dan. Soraers, MrB. T. N. Murphy,
Mrs. William Hall, Mrs. Ethel Gar
field Scott, Mrs. J. M. Berry, Mrs. II.
S. Cavana, Miss Irene Murphy, Miss
Syra Kuhn and Miss Julia Snodgrass.
Mrs. Scott sang two boIos and the
ladies orchestra rendered several se
lections. M. J. M ALOTT.
