Dr. McMillan returned this morning
from Spokane where he Is bent on be
coming a genuine farmer. This even
ing Dr. and Mrs. McMillan leave for
a trip to Portland and Spokane.
Archie Bacon returned this morning
form Spokane and other points re
quired to take a chance in all three
of the land drawings. He states the
crowds are bo great in Spokane that
it is difficult to secure rooms.
Miss Juliet Cooper, who has been
the guest of friends In La Grande re
turned to Pendelton last evening. She
met with an accident while horseback
riding and returned with a badly bat-

der is here visiting her daughter Mrs.

will remain about two weeks.
Workmen are busy today repairing
the depot platform by replacing plank
that were broken or decayed.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Rlnehart of Imbler
who were, recently married at Elgin,
returned this morning from a wedding
Juncket through Walla Walla, and
coast points. They left on the morn
ing train for their future home in
Imbler.

George Currey Jr., Loy Wissler and
Wilbur Jay, who last Monday left for
the wilds of upper Mlnam to spend a
week fishing, came home lant evening,
tired of body and depressed in spirits.
The trip was an unfortunate one for
the heavy rains swelled the streams
to abnormal height and fishing was an
impossibility. One pleasnt day
marked the trip, and that was the
day they made their return trip.
Ed Makinson who five years ago
quit answering railroad signals to lead
the simple life is In from his farm
in Pine valley, on his way to Seattle
via Snokane where he will take a
chance In the land drawing. Mr. Ma
kinson Uvea within a few miles of
HnmnHtpnd and Coi)i)erfleld, where
the Snake river road Is being con
structed, also the Ox Bow power plant
where COO men are now employed.
Mr. Jacob Vorhees, state organizer
of the Grange, spent last night as the
gues of C. D. Huffman, and went on
to his home in Woodburn this morn
lng. Mr. Vorhees has spent the last
two months traveling through Mich
igan, Indiana, Iowa, Virginia, and was
In fact all over the middle west. He
says that no place since he left home
has looked so good to him as old
Grande Ronde.
v Dale Murray, the son of Mr.
Mrs. Thomas Murray, who was se
verely burned at a camp fire at the
city park grounds recently, is getting
along nicely. His burns were dressed
today by Doctor Hall, who' found the
frightful burns are healing very sat
isfactorily. .
Burke Williams, a bookkeepei in
the Merchants bank at Eugen. 13 here
visiting friends for a few days.
Miss McLaren, for six years a mis
sionary In Turkey, will speak In the
Methodist Episcopal church next
Sunday evening at 8 o'clock.
F. L. Lilly of the Lilly Hardware
company is able to be out a short
period at a time today, following an
acute attack of sickness yesterday.
Mrs. Emma Kirkpatrick and her
daughter, Mrs. A. B. Henlat of north
ern Washington, who Is her guest
were up from Island City this after
noon calling on friends.
L. S. Kersay and family, W. Cough-
creamery Is in Coeur D'Alene filing
on government land.
. The Kaffee Klatch will meet at the
home of Mrs. Charles H. Coimey, to
morrow afternoon.

Ed Coolidge returned today from

Circuit Judge J. W. Knowles will
return from Enterprise tomorrow.
v E. S. Mt Comas, who is living in
Elgin, came in on the afternoon train.
Two black bears came In on the
Wallowa train from Joseph they will
be shipped to Buffalo, New York.
Sheriff Marvin is in the city on the
way to Salem where he Is taking

and thief.
J. II. Mimnaugh or Wallowa, came
in this afternoon. He states that

H. P. Lewis, who has been writing
New. York Life Insurance for the past
ten days In Wallowa, has returned

from Enterprise this afternoon where
he has been several days looking
after the construction of several

L. C. Henderson who several years
ago was foreman on the Evening Ob
server, but now a farmer near En
terprise, came out this afternoon ac
companied by his brother. W. H.
Henderson, who Is a manual training
teacher In the publlc Bchools of Sprln
field, Illinois, who is out to see our
coaBt. They are both en route to Ken
neswlck, where their brother Scott Is
publishing the Reporter.
