Many Killed In Battle. '
Barcelona, July 27. Twelve
were killed and 50 injured this after
noon In a clash between troops and
rioters. The dead include a military
captain, three gendarmes, and eight
rioters.

& N. employe who had his eye burned
very badly a few weeks ago with a
cinder, has gone to Portland for
treatment. It Is feared that the eye

A miscellaneous surprise shower
was last evening tendered Miss Laura
Green at the home of her parents,
1311 N avenue,, in anticipation of her
coming marriage to Reuben E. Wills
of Corvallis. Costly presents rained
down on the unsuspecting bride-to-be
at a late hour In the evening, and
informal pastime occupied the even
ing hours. Light refreshments con
sisting of three-of-a-klnd sherbet,
cake and coffee brought, to a close
one of the most enjoyable ante-nuptial
affairs in the city this summer.
On account of the surprise nature ot
the event, no house decorations were
attempted. Those present at the ex
tremely pleasant shower, were: Mes
dames Maude Hanson, F. H. Green
and A. W. Nelson; Misses Nora Fritts,
