Attorney Charts Cochran of La
Graude delivered the principal address
of the afternoon at Pioneer's Day.
'Charley'' was at his best find the
picture of the patrotlsra and heroism
of the early pioneers aud especially to
Captain Williams who was seated on
the platform as the living hero of the
battle of the Grande Ronde forty three
years ago, was clothed in eloquent
language of the highest order. Wm.
T. Curley composed a short poem In
honor of the Captain which brought
forth merited applause. An original
poem in honor of the pioneers by M.
L. -Carter read by his daughter, Mrs.
Daron. of Cove was appreciated by
all as also was an original poem on
Grande Ronde by Mrs. Stlllwell.
Following the program was the elec
tion of officers resulting In the re
election of President J. H. Rlnehart,
J. T. Williamson as secretary and
Mrs. J. B. Eaton as Historian. Secre
tary Henry Kinehart who has served
since 1893 was tendered a vote of
thanks for his faithful services. La
Grande was selected as the next
meeting place. '
