resentative on the A-Y-P. grounds,
writes that he is making arrange
ments for a large representaton at
the Seattle fair on Union county day.
July 27. He will have special badges
for all from the good old county, and
will be instrumental In providing en
tertainment. He is anxious to have some good
exhibits of cherries sent and has
turned this proiiosition over to the
Commercial club.
Mrs. Ivanhoe, who will be on the
scene that day as Union county's
hostess is also doing all in her power
to entertain the guests when they
come.

morrow will wind up the purchases
that are to be made.
This was agreed upon at a meet
ing of the directors last evening.

Sunday school will give an ice cream
social on Thursday "evening at the
home of Mrs. C H. Bid well. The pro
ceeds will go toward paying for a
new organ for the Island City church.

that the government is investigating
a large tract of land west of the Uma
tilla river and Bouth of the Colum
bia with a view to establishing anoth
er government project in the west end
of Umatilla county, was had this
morning from A. F. Davis, chief en
gineer of the -reclamation service, and
D. C. Henny, supervising engineer in
the northwest, relates the Pendleton
E.O.
While passing through the city this
morning on train No. 11 these men
were interviewed by sn East Oregon
ian representative and both admitted
that the government had ordered
tests and a complete Investigation of
the possibilities of the land for a pro
ject They said this was but one of about
a dozen possible projects which the
government had under consideration
in this state and that when, the mon
ey became available the most feasible
one would be selected. Mr. Henny
Intimated that it might be a long time
before there would be any money
available.

record In quantity of mail sent out
to' Elgin and wallowa county Eince
the advent of the mail service. There
were 69 80-pound bags of papers,
31 bags of letters and 25 registers.
This makes a total of something like
15,000 pounds of mail to be carried
on one train.
The lot filled the mail car and Mes
senger Ballinger was the perspiring
kid on that trip.
