Record breaking street improve
ments in, the way of cement walks
and board walks, have been realized
the past two months. Not alone is the
total of cement walks large but it is
of a superior quality. Contractor
Mars, who has done practically all of
this work, meets entire satisfaction
with his work from Street Superinten
dent Matott and the street committee
of the council. A half mile of board
walk has been put in place, but more
Important .than this, is the amount of
cement walk completed recently.
Among the' cement walks built are
the following:
J. a Wright, 187 feet' on Pennsyl
vania and Sixth; F. Floyd, 120 feet on
Sixth street; A. A. Gust, 90 feet of

The House of Bargains
12-foot walk on Adams avenue, and 60
feet on Adams avenue near the Jap
anese quarters, by W. B. Sutherland.
These two pieces of walk connect con
tinuous cement walks on both sides
of the street from Chestnut to Hem
a distance of over a half mile.
Bill Baling, 197 feet of five-foot
walk, corner North Depot and Monroe;
Mrs. Proebstel, 63 feet and curb on
Second street, and the court house
walks including 1284 square feet of
7 foot walk.
Street Superintendent Matott affirms
that the improvements planned for
the immediate future have not taken
shape yet and when they do, the rec
ord of the past few months- will again
be broken.

It is agreed by everybody who has
attended the show at the' Scenic this
week that It is one of the best vaude
ville shows ever been shown here on
a stage. Petrle and Budd certainly
have made friends with the La Grande
audience and are more welcome at
every performance. Rosa and Green
too, come in for their share of the
praise and are well received by all.
