Mr. and Mrs. Hansen, of Iola, Kan
sas, left for points west today after
a visit with Mr. and Mrs. William Al
linson. They will tour the coast be
fore returning to their home.
Engineer Frank Jackson is taking
a lay off for. a short time. He will
spend his vacation in Portland and
Seattle. Engineer Reachlin will take
his place.
A. Sundman who has made Hilgard
his home for the last fifteen years, is
in La Grande today. Some of these
times Mr. Sundman expects to make
his home in La tiran'de, having recent
ly purchased an acre tract here.
Mrs. Anna .Wells Baker, who at
tended the grand lodge at Pendleton
as a representative of Orthin lodge,
Portland, arrived last evening to visit
relatives and frinds until Saturday.
Mrs. Baker Is one of the pioneers of
La Grande and made her home here
until a few years ago.
Mr. Stroma of Iowa, is here looking
over our county. He stated that last
year he got the western fever and
wrote to numerous places for descrip
tive literature, he received so much
that he did not evn attempt to read
it, but made up his mind to take plen
ty of time and come out and see for
himself. .
Miss Etha and Burl Kooch of Enter
prise, and Miss Cooper, a teacher in
the Joseph high school were in the
city this morning- on their way home
from the Seattle fair. Miss Etha Kooch
has been attending school at Eugene.
She was joined at Portland by her
brother and Miss Cooper and all pro
ceeded to the fair together. They re
port a(ery delightful time.
