The- Mrs. Walter Reed who will ap
pear on the Pantages circuit with
Louise Kent, is not the artist who ap
peared in La Grande two years ago,
according to a statement by the lady
herselr. There are evidently two
Mrs. Walter Reed, but at any rate,
the one known here is not going on
the vaudeville stage, as was an
nounced lately.

man known to be dead, and twelvj
badly burned as a result of an ex
plosion of a mine of the Lackawanna
Coal and Coke Company today. It
is thought that the death list will
be Binall.
Fire broke out this afternoon in
the mine. It is feared that 65 en
tombed men cannot be rescued alive.

Spokane Day. Attracts Many.
Seattle, June 23. Spqkane Day the
big event of the Inland Empire at the
exposition to be celebrated Friday,
has brought the largest delegation
of visitors of any city so far. The
SpoRane Chamber of Commerce! and
the "Two Hundred and Fifty Thou
sand Club," of that city will send a
big delegation.
Lone Bandit Robs Stage.
NEVADA CITY, Calif., June 23.
A lone highwayman held up the Al-le'gheny-Downievllle
stage five miles
from here today. They robbed the
passengers of two hundrd dollars in
cash, and all their Jewelry, and car?
rled off the Wells Fargo express con
taining $1400. Sheriff Walker, with
a posse, is pursuing them.
